Radiance

At the seventh annual Radiance benefit for student scholarships, held May 11 in the Glasscock Family Foundation Ballroom, Radiance Scholar Amanda Posey shared her story.

From left are Medical Mutual of Ohio Chairman, President and CEO Rick Chiricosta, Sheila Chiricosta and CSU President Ronald M. Berkman. Mr. Chiricosta was awarded the President's Medal, CSU's highest nonacademic honor.

Class of โ€˜56 Meets Class of โ€˜17

Richard Veres, 84, graduated with a bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering from CSU's predecessor, Fenn College, in 1956, although he was unable to collect his diploma in person because he was drafted by the U.S. Army. CSU invited Mr. Veres to attend this yearโ€™s Commencement exercises, where he received special recognition from President Berkman and a standing ovation from the crowd.

The Big Day

On May 13, morning and afternoon ceremonies were held at the Wolstein Center for graduates of the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Sciences and Health Professions, the Washkewciz College of Engineering, the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Monte Ahuja College of Business, the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Honors College and the School of Nursing.

CSU President Ronald M. Berkman and CSU Board of Trustees Chair Bernie Moreno greeted the graduates.

Joseph Hubach (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, summa cum laude) and Alyse Souza (B.B.A. Accounting, summa cum laude) were valedictorians.

During the morning ceremony, the President's Medal was awarded to Gary Waters, who retired in March as the winningest coach in the history of the Vikings menโ€™s basketball program.

The Cleveland-Marshall College of Law will hold its Commencement ceremony on May 20 at Playhouse Squareโ€™s Ohio Theatre. Linda Klein, president of the American Bar Association, will receive an honorary degree and deliver the Commencement address. Richard Pogue, former managing partner of Jones Day, and College of Law Leader-in-Residence Steven Percy, former chairman/CEO of BP America, also will be awarded honorary degrees.
